I think too in recent years with all the self help and positive psychology we have also demonised the ego and perhaps the dragon familiar is a reflection of us trying to separate ourself from the ego but have it externalised but as you said, we cannot give away our power to something outside of ourselves but rather must harmonise all aspects of the psyche including the ego and merge with it
Exactly that! The ego must be integrated in a healthy way. I also felt that way about “slaying” the dragon is to kill off the ego (which also doesn’t work)
Totally agree! “Integrated” that’s the word I was searching for that sums up what our mission is. Killing it off or having it on a long leash with a familiar attached is not the way for sure!
